Support - Cmail FAQ

This FAQ contains the questions asked most often by customers when troubleshooting CMail Server.

Email programs continually report mail server connection failure:

  1. Has Remote Connector Mode been enabled? If so, disable it from the Configuration > Remote Connector Mode menu.
  2. How much disk space is available? CMail Server should have access to at least 10Mb of hard disk space at all times. If the amount of space drops below this level, CMail will suspend incoming mail services until the amount of free space is above the minimum limit.
CMail Server is unable to authenticate NT Users:
  1. Is CMail Server installed and running as a service? In order to authenticate users against the NT Users Database, CMail must be installed and running as a service. This gives the application the permissions that it needs to communicate with the NT database and authenticate users. To make sure this is the case, open Control Panel, Services in NT and locate 'CMail Server'. Highlight the service and click 'Stop'. When the service has stopped, click the 'Start' button to restart the
  2. Has the users password been changed in CMail Server? When an NT User is imported into CMail and you look at the User Properties menu, the user will appear to have a two character password **. This password tells the CMail Server to authenticate the user against the NT database and not the local system. If this password is changed for any reason, CMail will not pass authentication to the NT database and will try authenticate the user itself resulting in a login failure. You should re-import the user into CMail Server.
